Kanatek worked with a Canadian financial institution to install Symantec Database Edition for Sybase/HA software on a pair of Sun E3800 servers.

The following diagram shows the architecture of the VCS cluster.

Key Kanatek tasks included:

• Reviewing Sun patches and packages on each server
• Installing Sybase Database Edition packages (all VxFS, VxVM, Quick I/0, and documentation packages)
• Configuring Volume Manager software. Encapsulating root disk and mirror. Configuring volume types and sizes as per client specifications. Configuring VxVM DMP. Creating Symantec File Systems with Quick I/O
• Installing application and database software on Sun E3800s
• Installing VCS 2.0 on Sun E3800. Configuring heartbeats and main.cf configuration files. Installing VCS patch patch01. Building required service groups and custom agents
• Conducting preliminary fail-over acceptance tests
• Conducting functional and final acceptance tests
• Creating run book for E3800 Cluster
• Cut over from current DSTS First Watch E450 pair to new DSTS VCS E3800 cluster
• Sign-off phase one Sun E3800 VCS cluster implementation
