Working with an international IT services company, Kanatek designed, i nstalled and implemented five SUN servers and Symantec Cluster Server (VCS) software running on four of the five servers. Storage for the clusters was provided by an EMC subsystem connected to a SAN. In addition, Kanatek installed a SUN E280 server connected to an S1 storage system.
The VCS configuration was comprised of two clusters, each with two nodes. The clusters were configured in Active/Standby mode, where if the active node fails, the services will fail over to the standby node in the same cluster.
Each VCS cluster was configured with one VCS Service Group. Each group monitors the following resources:
- Public Network Interface
- Virtual IP address
- Volume Manager Disk Groups
- Volume Manager
- Volume Manager File System mount points
- Oracle 8.x application
- MySAP CRM v3.0 application

At the end of the installation, acceptance tests were successfully conducted to demonstrate that the servers were functional and a final Installation and Configuration document was produced. The document outlined the VCS configuration, application binary and data locations, and application fail-over functionality.
