Kanatek worked with a Canadian financial institution to install and set-up Solaris Jumpstart server in order to speed up the process of building and/or upgrading servers. The client was in the early stages of upgrading their Sun server environment from Solaris 2.6 and 7 operating system versions to the Solaris 8 operating system. As well, many new repetitive server builds were occurring.
The objectives of the project were to automate installation of servers using the Solaris Jumpstart feature. Jumpstart was used to automate installation and configuration of:
- Solaris 8 Operating System and Patches
- Symantec Volume Manager, Patches and mirroring of disk
- Approximately twelve In-House applications
- Approximately twelve 3 rd Party Applications
- Informal training to client's staff on Solaris Jumpstart and packaging concepts and practices through hands-on demonstration and whiteboarding as necessary
Four Sun servers were built and installed using the Solaris Jumpstart server.
