Kanatek recently installed a back up infrastructure for a Canadian financial institution running on IBM Windows.
The client had approximately 1 TeraByte of data in their environment. Of this volume of data, about 400 GB resided on the IMG_SERVER2 and IBM Fast T500 fibre channel attached disk array.
The proposed backup LAN was a 100 Base-T switched environment. However, all servers in the environment hd gigabit Ethernet capabilities as well.
It was desired that the final end backup configuration had all backups going through a firewall to the backup server and port usage was to be minimized through the firewall. As a result, Symantec NetBackup 4.5 DataCenter software was utilized for its no-call back method that minimizes the required number of open ports in the firewall.
The client also had a NetBackup 3.4 installation in another Canadian location which consisted of a Sun V880 NetBackup master server and two Seagate LTO-1 SCSI tape drives in an STK L180 tape library. Interoperability between the two locations from a backup and recovery perspective was required.
