Saturday April
16th, 8pm. Camp One and Thailand
(EST is 9
hours 45mins behind Nepal)
Harold decides to sleep at Camp One for another
night
Diary by Harold Mah and Terry Kell
Camp One (Harold Mah)
It’s beautiful here at Camp One, cold and
windy, but very beautiful.
Sean and I climbed another 300 feet this morning
to 19,670 feet and then decided to head back
down. Sean has gone all the way back to Base
Camp to rest and acclimatise. I have decided
to stay at Camp One for another night and head
back to Base Camp tomorrow. Sean will rest for
3-4 days before heading up again. It’s
a slow process of acclimatising to this altitude.
The barometric pressure here at Camp One is 483hPa!
The standard air pressure at sea level is usually
just over 1000hPa (Hectopascals). It’s
quite a difference.
Thailand (Terry Kell)
Some of us (Gerry, Norm, Peter, Elia and me)
have made our way to Thailand. We’ve been
trying to juggle flights but everything seems
to be booked. Howard and Nicole will fly back
to Canada tomorrow and the rest of us will probably
have to continue with our original flight plans.
We’re all well, although tired. Most of
us have lost quite a bit of weight. We seem to
just “decompressing” from what has
been an amazing experience.
We met with Kili Sherpa before we left Kathmandu,
who organised all the logistics of the expedition
for us. We are looking for ways we can help by
setting up a scholarship fund for the climbing
sherpas. We also plan to meet with Child Haven
International when we return to see what we can
do to raise more money for the orphanage in Nepal.
We have received all the emails from well wishers
and there were lots and lots of them. Thank you
for your kind thoughts. Keep them coming.
More later
Harold & Terry
Terry Kell is returning to Kathmandu, with most
of the expedition party and they will return
to Canada within the next 7-10 days.
Harold Mah is staying at Base Camp to support
Sean Egan when he makes his summit attempt in
May.
