Expedition members
will be available via satellite phone, video
phone, email and SMS for interviews during
their stay at Base Camp.
Time Difference
EST is currently nine and three quarter hours
behind Nepal.
So, 10am EST is currently 7.45pm in Nepal,
on the same day. Interviews can
therefore best be conducted either early in the morning or late in the
evening, EST.
Radio interviews
The expedition
team will be carrying 3 satellite phones from
two different manufacturers, Thuraya and Iridium.
They will also have 2 data satellite phones
by Crane & Crane, capable of
64kbps video or data. Once a time and date for
the interview have been agreed all we need is
your studio telephone number and we will arrange
for the member(s) of the expedition party to
call you direct.
Television interviews
The expedition party will be carrying a LiveLink
video phone for live audio visual feed. To receive
the feed, TV studios will need an ISDN link and
a video phone that is compatible with the LiveLink
system. Kanatek has a separate LiveLink phone
at its offices in Ottawa, for this compatibility
testing. The system allows a studio to take a
direct feed from the camera for high definition
sound and images.
Kanatek is also able to host the media at its
Ottawa offices for live interviews over its LiveLink
system. In some circumstances, it may be possible
for Kanatek to bring its LiveLink equipment to
the TV studios for local access, although the
studio will still need an ISDN feed.
Once the technology has been tested and a time
and date for the interview have been agreed,
all we need is your studio contact number and
we will arrange for the member(s) of the expedition
party to call you direct.
